A last minute opportunity to join a cruise that would call at some of the most remote Atlantic islands, how could I say no to that?
Little did I know this was going to turn into a global news event after the tragic death of three fellow passengers due to a hantavirus outbreak on our ship, the MV Hondius.
Fortunately we were able to do almost all the scheduled stops and landings. So besides the excitement and unease of the last few weeks, this trip also leaves me with fond memories of South Georgia 🇬🇸, Tristan da Cunha 🇹🇦, Ascension Island 🇦🇨 and Saint Helena 🇸🇭.
Met some fascinating and lovely people along the way. Also all the Oceanwide Expeditions staff and Hondius crew were already outstanding during the normal part of the voyage, and worked even harder to keep people safe and entertained once things got a lot more challenging.
