Denmark & Southern Norway

Aalborg & Hjørring: The trip kiceds off in Denmark by catching up with an old friend, some local museums, street food, and city parks.

Kristiansand & Southern Coast: By ferry into Norway, followed by a heritage train ride on the Setesdalsbanen, some gentle hiking in Egersund, then arriving in Stavanger just in time for the Tall Ship Races.

Western Fjords to the Arctic Circle

Fjord Coast & Ålesund: Moving north by coach and ferry through Bergen for a catch up with friends and puffin watching in Tjørvåg, eventually reaching the Art Nouveau city of Ålesund.

Mountain Passes & Trondheim: Highlights include climbing the steep Rampestreken viewpoint in Åndalsnes, attending the RaumaRock festival, and visiting the historic Nidaros Cathedral and Armoury in Trondheim.

Northern Sweden by Rail: The journey crosses into Sweden for a ride on the famous Inlandsbanan wilderness train from Östersund to Gällivare, before crossing back into Norway via Kiruna to visit Narvik and Tromsø.

Svalbard with abandoned mining Towns

Longyearbyen: A flight from Oslo lands in the world’s northernmost town for a glacier hike to Trollsteinen and the local museums.

Russian Settlements: The trip concludes with boat expeditions across the Isfjorden to explore the active Russian coal-mining town of Barentsburg and the famous preserved Soviet ghost town of Pyramiden, including tours of its abandoned buildings and mine.
